The ceiling is the busiest plane in the building
Above a suspended ceiling sits ductwork, sprinkler mains, electrical, data, and structure. The grid is the last thing installed and the first thing blamed when something does not fit. Planning ahead avoids that.
Coordinate heights early
Ceiling height needs to be confirmed against the lowest obstruction in the plenum, not the drawing assumption. Discovering a duct in the way after the grid is hung means demolition and rework.
Fixtures, diffusers and sprinklers
Light fixtures, air diffusers and sprinkler heads all land in the grid. Where they sit relative to grid lines is an aesthetic decision as much as a technical one — and it is far cheaper to resolve on paper.
Acoustic performance
Tile selection drives sound absorption within the room, but sound transferring between rooms depends on whether partitions run to deck or stop at the ceiling. If acoustic separation matters, the partition detail matters more than the tile.
Seismic and code requirements
Suspended ceilings in BC require seismic bracing per code. This has to be planned into the layout, not added afterwards. We install to the applicable requirements as standard.
